Background

In April 1999 Profert started as a supplier of basic granular fertilizer bulk blends - which were all imported. The founder members and employees were up against tough competition, so they were often extremely biased towards the bigger role players. There was an exceptionally small marketing team with little or no technical service support.

Profert though, has now evolved into a supplier of a wide range of quality fertilizers and services and is the fourth biggest supplier of fertilizers in South Africa. It also owns 20% of the market share (approximately 300 000 tons) and is one of the leaders in coating granular fertilizer with various inorganic and organic products which improves the efficiency of fertilizers - thereby reducing cost and impact on the environment.
